BigXthaplug’s album rolled out a shortening of flash and handcuffs after his traffic stop in southeastern Dallas, resulting in his arrest on misdemeanor charges for hours of planned celebrations.
The Dallas rapper was detained earlier on August 22 after police pulled him over for lack of a former license plate.
The officer said they found the smell of marijuana and later found guns and a small amount of marijuana in his car.
The arrest occurred during a police operation against street takeover.
Bigxthaplug was booked in the Dallas County Jail on two counts: illegal possession of firearms and two ounces of marijuana. His attorney insisted that the allegations were small and exaggerated.
His Valerie Baston lawyer told CBS News 11, “We will wait to see the PC affidavit, but we will work hard for clients because that’s the truth. These are two misdemeanors and people are trying to make it a felony.”
Despite legal setbacks, BigXthaplug didn’t waste any time returning to his music. After bail, he shared a video on social media, flashing six plaques (three gold medals and three platinums), while promoting his latest release of the National Influence rap album, and I hope you are happy.
The arrest brought the scheduled album release on the local wing field and had a party the night before at a Deep Ellum nightclub.
Bigxthaplug did not mention the arrest in his celebratory post. Instead, he focused on the success of his performance and the momentum of the latest projects.
Bigxthaplug wrote: “Run the cells to 6 plaques (3 gold 3 platinum) 🙏🏾 2 new custom works and fresh fades.”
This is not the first time a rapper has faced similar charges. Earlier in 2025, he was arrested in Arlington, Texas, in comparable circumstances involving cannabis and guns.
