Rapper Chance finally released Star Line, his first album in six years.
The Chicago rapper recruited celebrity assistant actors from the project, including Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Joey Bada $$ and Jay Electronica, a little discovery.
In a statement accompanying the release, the album was described as: “Chance’s global journey, artistically, spiritually and physically, over the past six years. Created with longtime producer DexLvL and shaped by travels to Ghana, Jamaica and art fairs around the world, Star Line blends hip-hop, soul and experimental sounds with lyrical meditations on identity, resilience and legacy.
“While Chance bypasses the Earth for new perspectives, the project is still in the worldview, which has always defined his art: deep, unshakable connections to Chicago, and the black culture of the entire diaspora.”
Star Line is also the first release of opportunity since the divorce of Kirsten Coley.
The former couple shared two children, and the opportunity to appear on CBS mornings to talk about the status quo of their family dynamics.
He said, “She’s good. Hey Kirsten! Hey Kensley and Mary. You know, family is one of my biggest things for me, for my kids, for my mom and dad. So I think the most important thing for anyone who has to navigate is to make sure you make sure you keep prioritized environments for what your kids know.”
Chance also revealed that his song “Time and Time” is about his family: “I think it’s a very personal song, you know, what we’re talking about, this relationship with my child’s mother.”
The Chicago rapper has been mocking Star Line for a while but has previously announced that he is returning because he doesn’t like how fans talk about his work.
In a video posted on Instagram last year, he joined his followers to call his upcoming project “albums” rather than the official champion when interacting with him on social media.
“Well, here’s the point I’m going to make: Stop calling it ‘albums’,” he said while riding the tour bus. “And I’m not saying it’s an ungrateful one.
