Soulja Boy was arrested Tuesday (August 5) on criminals convicted of possession of firearms after prosecutors in Los Angeles refused to pursue charges related to the weekend arrest.
“The case was denied due to insufficient evidence,” a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in an email from the Rolling Stones. Prison records show the 35-year-old rapper posted before 2 p.m. local time.
The arrest happened early Sunday (August 3) when Los Angeles police pulled the Soulja boy from the car born Deandre Cortez Way. According to a LAPD spokesman, police officers are suspected of felony crimes. Authorities did not provide detailed information on the reasons that prompted traffic to stop.
The parking took place near Melrose Street, not far from Way’s Sodmg clothing brand’s storefront.
Arrests have made an increasing list of “crank” rappers. In April, a jury awarded him $4 million in damages to an ex-girlfriend who accused him of being beaten, sexual assault and harassment. He was also convicted of carrying loaded weapons in a vehicle after being arrested in the San Fernando Valley.
He has not publicly commented on the latest incident.
Soulja Boy rose to fame in 2007 with his viral hit single “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” (Soulja Boy), which became No. 1 in the Billboard Hot 100 and sparked a wide dance craze.
Soulja Boy is one of the first artists to use the power of social media platforms such as MySpace and YouTube to promote his music, helping to transform the discovery and sales talent in the music industry.
His debut album souljaboytellem.com helped define the sound and style of rap in the late 2000s.
In addition to music, Soulja Boy is engaged in startups including fashion series, video game consoles and technology investments. Despite the ongoing debate on his legacy, Soulja Boy remains an influential and controversial figure known for his innovations in music promotion and digital branding.
