Stormzy announced an exciting new chapter in his career Thursday (June 12), unveiling his performance debut and the launch of #Merky Films, a new production division that expands his growing creative empire.
The British rapper released a big-name trailer for the #Merky movie’s first project on Instagram.
The short film, produced in collaboration with Apple, was shot entirely on the iPhone 16 Pro, marking Stormzy’s primary role on screen.
He plays Tenzman, a former rap star, and his life uncertainty after his reputation.
The big man, directed by Oscar winner Aneil Karia, explores the themes of self-reflection and emotional growth as Tenzman creates a life-changing connection with two young boys, Klevis and Tyrell.
“I always say: Music is my first love, but movie is my second love,” Stormzy said in a statement. “The #Merky movie is the history I dreamt about – a space for powerful British stories and a solid, fresh, unexpected art home. It’s the natural next step in everything we do at #Merky – share our story, focus on important voices and make room for those who should be seen and heard.”

The film aims to capture the energy and optimism of youth while encouraging the audience to reconnect with the youthful self and embrace gratitude.

The Big Man will premiere on YouTube on June 18, 2025.
Merky Films joins Stormzy’s expanding portfolio of cultural initiatives, which already include #Merky Books and #Merky FC, both dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices in literature and football.
The rapper also reportedly reached a development deal with Netflix and is working on multiple projects.
