Drake is accused of trying to mock the long traditional lyrical battle of hip-hop in an attempt to undermine the First Amendment through a lawsuit against Kendrick Lamar.

The rapper faces legal resistance from Universal Music Group, with his lawsuit targeting Lamar’s top diss track “Don’t Like Us.”

The legal battle stems from a two-month lyrical exchange between Drake and Kendrick Lamar in 2024, two rap heavyweights traded nine diss tracks.

Drake’s lawsuit initially centered on “not like us”, claiming that he called him a “certified pedophile.”

But after UMG filed a motion for firing, Drake filed an amended complaint and shifted its focus to Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl show, although the lyrics involved were ignored in the show.

UMG now asks judges to abandon the case altogether, saying the claims are groundless and constitutional danger.

“Evaluation in the context, ‘unlike us’ expresses inaction-free opinions and exaggerated exaggerations,” explains UMG attorney Rollin A. Ransom. “Indeed, Diss’s track is a popular and well-known art form centered on outrageous insults, and they would be very refrigerated if Drake’s lawsuits were allowed to continue.”

The ransom did not stop pointing out what he believed to be hypocritical in Drake’s position.

“Drake doesn’t have to worry about UMG’s slut about Lamar’s slut during the rap hatred, and now claims “not like us” are defamatory. These allegations (that are intended to be shockingly legal artistic expressions, intended to be upheld by the First Amendment), are a beneficial nobody.”

UMG believes that any claim for defamation will be flat because the statements in the song are not assertions of facts, but typical views of rap wars.

The tag also targets Drake’s own lyrical content, noting that he used UMG’s platform to release Diss Track, accusing Kendrick Lamar of being abused and questioning the parent-child relationship of his children.

UMG said it undermined Drake’s credibility asserting himself as a victim of slander. The record label’s application treats the lawsuit as less about legal harm and more about Drake’s bruised self.

The tag says that the rapper tried to “save his wounds” after losing his public rap hatred, now targeting a commercial success of “not like us”, which became the best-selling rap song of 2024

UMG asked the court to dismiss Drake’s complaint about bias, which would prevent him from making changes to the case.

Drake’s legal battle against Kendrick Lamar attracts UMG’s flames, which accuses him of trying to silently index and stifle free speech.
