Allhiphop’s Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur caught up with New Orleans’ own Dee-1, an independent rapper and activist known for his unwavering moral compass. His lyricality is also underestimated! In a primitive and candid conversation, Dee-1 breaks his upcoming hypocritical plan, why he calls for the toxic side of the industry. He also discusses reconnecting with hot girls mentally and musically. Eventually, his desire to work with Lil Wayne was put first. Strangely, longtime Lil Wayne manager Cortez Bryant randomly joined the chat. Our Dreamville content keeps coming.

AllhipHop: What happened, the world? I met a dear friend – Dee-1 in this crazy music business.

Dee-1: Man, I’m so lucky to be with my dog Chuck! Dreamville Fest just got ignited – did you hear me?

AllhipHop: Absolute. So, what makes you use all these pagans here?

Dee-1: [Laughs] You’re funny, brother. You say pagan! But honestly, the Internet. My whole journey was about what I could do through relationships. Not what people do for me. I have to go out here and make a real connection. Some artists won’t even leave their home unless they get paid. It cost me money to come here – but have you contacted? That is priceless. This makes the whole journey worth it when people say “Di, your music has changed my life” or “You are a true God’s man.”

Allhiphop: You definitely changed your life, but you also had some challenges. How do you deal with it?

DEE-1: Things I can’t do without an echo. There is a lot of darkness and ignorance in this industry, and I want to face it straight. After all this, I still see people as children of God. But we have to be real – the industry is rewarding what poisons our community. This is not worth celebrating.

Allhiphop: Over the past few years, dark energy seems to have become bigger. How do you view the current status of hip-hop?

Dee-1: Honestly, I don’t call it hip-hop anymore – I have to do a new term for it: hypocritical jump. It’s a far cry from the establishment of hip-hop. That’s the name of my next album, June. I try to get us out of this mentality.

AllhipHop: Are you going to tour your new album?

Dee-1: Absolute. The album dropped in June. That’s when we’re going to start the press and I’m going to tour in July and August. New York City is on the list, I absolutely need a proper Allhiphop to sit down!

AllhipHop: You are here to support your New Orleans brothers. Tell us.

Dee-1: I am the Hot Boy’s Child-I call myself the Holy Hot Boy. I grew up on their music, but God gave me a call. That said, almost all my music is playing music. BG and I received a single “My Enemy” that dropped on April 16. My boy and I just did a track for his new project. The Turks and I are linking this week. Only one is Weezy-so Weezy F, if you hear this, go!

Allhiphop: That’s love. Are you here alone?

Dee-1: Yes, Dolo. I was riding an electric scooter around Raleigh, stopping at Smoothie King – Boom, Manny Fresh in it! He bought me a smoothie and you know next, I’m with him and C. Smith, we’re joining the teenager. The Turks were there too. It’s God. No media pass, no voucher – just faith. Now I’ll be in the backstage with you.

Allhiphop: It’s great to come back here and not to lie.

Dee-1: Yes! The front is peaceful but wild. Back here, it was very cold. But what really stands out is energy. What does that mean when people approach you and say “I respect what you are doing” or “I love your music.” This is the energy I’ve been gaining – the third case!

[At this point, music executive Cortez Bryant joins the conversation]

AllhipHop: Cortez! What’s good, my man?

Cortez Bryant: New Orleans is deep here! I had a great time – good people, good energy, and felt like a homecoming.

AllhipHop: You work with many legends. What are you excited about these days?

Cortez Bryant: This guy is here – Dee 1. Few people find such intentional people whose values are consistent with their artistic nature. This was a special time and I was very happy to support his work.

AllhipHop: Respect both of you. Allhiphop pays tribute to you.
