Kim Kardashian’s long-awaited Paris robbery trial took a dramatic turn after the unexpected death of main suspect Marceau Baum Gertner last month, just weeks before the French lawsuit began.
Gertner, a well-known “super fence” with deep ties to Paris’ criminal underworld, is one of 10 defendants accused of plotting an armed robbery in 2016. During Paris Fashion Week, Kardashian met Kardashian’s luxury suite in a luxury suite.
He died on March 6, and was called an “accident” by sources, with reports that he received death threats from criminal gangs in connection with the case.
The official cause of death has not been made public.
The trial, which was scheduled to open on Monday (April 28) and lasts until May 23, will be held without Gertner, but his absence leaves a big gap in the prosecution case.
Due to his age, the group’s defendants nicknamed “Grandpa Robber”, including 71-year-old Yunice Abbas, who has expressed plans to admit to participation and apologize.
Kardashian, who is expected to testify in person, will tell the painful night of October 3, 2016, when a masked man marches into the suite as a policeman, threatens the concierge at the muzzle and steals $6 million worth of jewelry.
During the robbery, Kardashian was tied into a bathtub with plastic tie and tape and worried about her life, thinking she might be raped or killed.
Investigators believe the robber knew that her bodyguard was absent at the time, which exacerbated the theory of internal work.
Among the stolen items, she owns a $4 million 18.88-carat diamond engagement ring from Kanye West, and a Louis Vuitton jewelry box containing Cartier bracelets, Jacob necklaces and other high-end pieces.
Only one cross was recovered with diamonds.
After the attack, Kim Kardashian overhauled her security measures and spoke openly about lasting trauma.
The trial is expected to provide new revelations for the planning and execution of one of the most notorious celebrity crimes in recent memory.
