Ice gains its own star among Hollywood celebrity

Ice Cube will acquire its own star in Hollywood celebrity at 11 a.m. Tuesday (April 15). He will join other groundbreaking hip-hop artists such as Ice-T, Cypress Hill, Snoop Dogg, Salt N’Pepa and Queen Latifah.

The ceremony was held in the front yard of the TCL Chinese Theater on Hollywood Avenue. According to the press release, “major announcements” are expected to be issued during the event.

Considering Cube has been shining since the 1980s, it is surprising that he has no stars yet. But his reputation has been weather for the past few decades. He has starred in several hit movies, including the beloved Friday franchise, which will finally see another in the near future.

Although Cube has been talking about it for years, New Line President/CCO Richard Brener recently confirmed the news to the Hollywood Reporter: “We are on another Friday. We just ended a deal with Ice Cube to write and star. This will be calling last Friday.”

Ice Cube has starred in all three Friday movies: Friday (1995), next Friday (2000) and next Friday. He also co-wrote the first entry with DJ Pooh and has solo script credits on both sequels. All of this was developed by New Line, and the new series was run by Mike De Luca during the period of the original trilogy. Warner Bros. later purchased a new product line, giving Warner Bros. control of the franchise.

Ice Cube teased the project when he made a appearance on ESPN’s The Jump in 2019, providing some details and hopes to get a 2020 release.

“Yes, we work hard for it,” he said at the time. “We finished the script, we were receiving notes from the studio and then walking back and forth. Start making and starting hiring. It would be great for coming out on the 25th anniversary. It’s a little…good.”

But it’s just in the card. Since then, multiple characters from the original film have passed away, making it even more challenging. John Witherspoon, who plays “Pop” died in 2019 after a heart attack, died in 2021 due to alcoholism in 2021, while Tommy “Tiny” Lister played the tough and lovely Deebo, who died in 1920 in 2020.

Ice Cube, who released the album Man Down last year, has been famous for most of his life. In a December 2024 interview with Allhiphop, he talked about his true views on becoming famous.

“I’m grateful for being famous,” he actually said. “It’s very good for me. It provides me with a way of life that I can never dream of. I thank my fans because they are the reasons. So I see my fans as my little army. They always support my projects. Sometimes you may like my projects. Sometimes you may like your top-notch.

Cube has always supported his hip-hop legend. In fact, he attended the ICE-T star ceremony in 2023. Chuck D, Russell Simmons, Mike Epps and Law & Order of Public Enemies: SUV actress Mariska Hargitay and creator Dick Wolf are also many on the deck. Peek into the photos below.
