Hip-hop may soon be Miami’s hottest travel tickets thanks to a new street renaming proposal by county commissioner Keon Hardmon.

Forget Palm Trees and Soft Buildings – Hardemon envisions Miami-Dade County streets with local hip-hop flavors in honor of DJ Khaled and Trick Daddy’s hometown artists, with street signs with iconic lyrics and appealing phrases.

CBS News Miami reports that more than 20 streets may soon be carrying classic hip-hop and memorable slogans, turning the cityscape into a rap tribute to the music that puts Miami on the map.

The plan shows that turning the daily access into a landmark worth mentioning is worthy of Instagram.

Imagine taking photos under street signs volunteering and proudly proclaiming “Kids Love Children” or “Our Best” that immortalizes Miami-born musicians who define the cultural identity of the city.

Hardemon, who represents Miami’s historic 18th Avenue Corridor, believes the project is more than just a smart brand.

He believes that celebrating local artists in such a clear and public way can help revitalize the community and attract visitors eager to experience the true musical roots of Miami.

“I want people to feel good about their position,” Hardemon said. “You don’t have to leave the community to live in a better community, you can stay here.”

The proposal sparked a heated debate among residents and community leaders, with some enthusiastically supporting the idea to celebrate Miami’s hip-hop legacy, while others questioned whether the concept was practical or suitable for the public road.

No final decision was made during Tuesday’s meeting, and the proposal is scheduled to return to the committee on March 18 for further discussions, giving Miami-Dade County residents time to weigh the potential impact of this lyrical street remodel.

At least last week, the city won, when Hardemon proposed renaming a portion of Northwest 11th Avenue after Liberty City native Luther “Luke” Campbell was approved.

“Something special happened, as big as a celebrity trip in Hollywood. The streets I grew up with were officially named after me, Luther Campbell!.”

Historic moment! 🙌🏾
