Doodlebug is a 58-year-old MC from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, famously 1/3 of the DIgable Planets. After disbanding, he will drop in the decade about a decade from his first futuristic science fiction novel in 2011 and Consumables and Recent Calidelphian. West Coast Duo 80 Empire officially joins his new collaboration LP & signs a deal with Fat Beats Records to help push it into the universe.
After “The Galaxy Introduction,” the first song “Outtaspace Connection” is a stylish romantic tune that throws it back to Zapp when talking about the law of attraction, while “Breath” subtly talks about his passion for his uncle, who grew up in his grandmother’s home. “Mother Earth is dying,” jazz discusses the gradual deterioration of our planet, leading to “spreading love (communication)” talking about positive and communication.
Shabazz Palaces, together with Doodlebug, makes it clear that they are constantly running and getting paid from these days, and “Amore” returns affectionately to the theme of romanticism. Nejma Nefertiti’s “Time Slips” finds the couple talking about living before “Intergalactic Love Supreme” with Yah-ra’s “Yah-ra spacice of Spacicielide to Reage to in Love”.
“I’m” featuring Emma Lee MC & Skrewtape, they can ask you to obey the empire’s trio, but “Nothing Continuous” ends a galaxy love-high conclusion with the official bone crusher and kxng, all three of them can cook with everything I like best, which is probably everything I like best until the last thing, until the last thing.
Digital’s Analog & Duke Jazz all really nailed it, helping Doodlebug create a provocative musical escapism, each song showing a different painting that puts the canvas at its core hip-hop, despite its many other influences from jazz to soul music. The only obligation to remind you of music is to make you feel good and think critically, they portray contemporary analogues to healthy marriages with digital or nostalgia.
