Drake Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify are causing a stir online after the company unexpectedly withdrew an explosive petition against it. However, the Toronto star chose to sidestep the backlash, instead sharing a series of cryptic posts on Instagram that did not address the controversy.
Drake posted two selfies on his Instagram Stories on Tuesday night (January 14). In the first story, Drizzle expresses her love for Dipset amid the ongoing drama between Cam’ron and Jim Jones.
In January 2023, Drake donned a diplomat jacket given to him by Capo after he guest-starred at two of his Apollo Theater shows , Capo called him “the fifth official member of Dipset” at the time.
“Descending forever,” he wrote on the photo.
The second photo shows Drake crouching in camo, paired with matching Timberland boots emblazoned with the Young Money logo.
He also shared another untitled photo, this time of Yung Lean.
Drake shared the cryptic posts just hours after news broke that he had officially withdrawn his petition against UMG and Spotify. The defamation petition against Texas UMG and iHeart is still ongoing.
He initially claimed that industry giants conspired to inflate the streaming numbers for Kendrick Lamar’s iconic diss “Not Like Us.” His legal team later clarified that no financial penalties would be imposed on either party following the withdrawal.
The move sparked heated speculation about Drake’s motives, with many online criticizing him for taking legal action in the first place.
One person shared, “Drake fans told us last year that this case would benefit every artist for years to come, only for him to back out due to lack of evidence.”

Another user claimed, “Drake started a petition to try and stomp #GNX and failed.”
If we are honest,
Drake filed a petition in an attempt to stomp #GNX, but failed.

So you mean to tell me that Drake went all out in Kyron mode but ended up foldingโฆ pic.twitter.com/KJBAeXIRH5

Everything Drake did was in vain. He never cared “whether the building was safe for other artists.” It’s all about leveraging another deal. He admits that “Not Like Us” tarnished his legacy and will now operate without any morals. https://t.co/MTpxhNHQSj

Hey, remember how Drake fans said his lawsuits against UMG and Spotify were like when Michael Jackson sued Sony, that he was doing it for smaller artists and fighting the machine?

Drake again gave in during another battle and withdrew his orders.
But they said he was doing it for smaller artists lol he didnโt even let it get to the first court date before he folded
Can Drake come back after calling the boys ๐ฎ๐ผ over his failed rap battle?

Drake gets a boost from fighting the village idiots, then encounters two psychopaths. It was his fault, he didn’t know how to adapt. https://t.co/GvJ5S7nW33

This Drake/UMG situation is playing “The Boy Who Cried Wolf.” The boy swore he wasn’t as swollen as we were. I wouldn’t be shocked if UMG NOW started deliberately messing with all his music so as not to pay him his full contract…it would be scary…

Drake fans argue with people who make a living in the legal industry and they still feel like they are the smartest people in the room lol.

Derek has experienced various stages of grief:
Denial: ‘I’ve never watched any teenagers’
Angry: “You beat Whitney!!!”
Bargaining: โWhat if the live streamer is a bot?โ
Melancholy: Ardin Rose Gambling Live
Acceptance: Withdrawal of the lawsuitโ ry (@RyanNice) January 15, 2025
Of course not as friends. Apparently Drake didn’t either pic.twitter.com/zMvbwMArkV
