Jay-Z is being sued again by Houston attorney Tony Buzbee, who accuses the rapper of paying his former client to sue Buzbee.
Jay-Z is sued again by lawyers
On January 3, Buzbee filed a new lawsuit in its ongoing battle with Jigga, according to court documents obtained by XXL on Wednesday (January 8). The new lawsuit alleges that one of the rapper’s attorneys convinced Buzbee’s former client Jose Maldonado to sue and pay Buzbee’s fees.
“Two individuals on behalf of Defendant Marcy Croft attempted to call Plaintiff (Maldonado) multiple times,” the lawsuit states. “They then went to what they believed was Plaintiff’s home. They actually went to his father’s home. home. When they realized they were at the wrong house, they continued to contact the plaintiff.”
Croft echoed the claim in a statement to the Houston Chronicle.
“For 25 years, I have worked to expose and dismantle networks of fraud and manipulation,” she wrote in the statement. “I didn’t ask to be a part of this fight. But now that he’s dragged me into it, he should know that I’m not one to The guy who backed down. Mr. Buzbee should be worried. Truth and justice are on my side and I fully intend to hold him accountable.
Last month, Buzbee filed a similar lawsuit against Roc Nation, alleging collusion with former clients to sue him. Buzbee, a well-known class action attorney, has filed more than a dozen lawsuits on behalf of Diddy’s plaintiffs and claims that more than 100 people will file lawsuits against Diddy and his associates in the future.
Back in December 2024, Buzbee filed an amended lawsuit on behalf of a woman who claimed she was raped by Jay-Z and Diddy at an afterparty in 2000 when she was 13 years old. This led to Jay-Z accusing Buzbee of denying the claims, with Buzbee claiming the rapper tried to bully and harass him before the lawsuit became public. It later emerged that Hov preemptively sued Buzbee for racketeering last November after being notified of the pending lawsuit.

Jay-Z’s team responds to new lawsuit
A spokesperson for Roc Nation provided the following statement to XXL regarding the latest lawsuit.
“Instead of focusing on the lawsuit filed by a former client over allegations of misconduct, Tony Buzbee is attempting to distract with frivolous litigation – which of course has nothing to do with Roc Nation,” the statement read. Buzbee will have to answer for his failure to vet his Jane Doe accuser while submitting her patently false story to the court while he was not even allowed to practice law and subjecting the world to the disaster of an NBC News interview the court will experience. Can’t afford censorship.
