After discussing her Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) on social media, SZA is opening up about why she no longer feels “comfortable” interacting with fans.

On Monday (December 30), a fan account shared a throwback video recorded during the early stages of the pandemic.

In the video, SZA is in the garden of her childhood home during lockdown, sharing some of the items she stole from her mum’s wardrobe.

The “Bill Bill” hitmaker retweeted the video while reflecting on that period of her life.

“COVID has been hard…my grandma just passed away,” SZA explained. “I got really depressed from covering up. Skipping meals. Over-exercising. But I always get lost in my childhood home. Still do. Grateful to be in a better mental space now. Still, those were the days.

However, the trip down memory lane prompted some shady comments, with one replying, “That’s before she was a big deal and bbl culture.”

One of SZA’s fan accounts responded to the tweet, adding, “Stop reminding us,” prompting the singer to fire back.

“You all say weird things like that and wonder why I’m different and no longer feel comfortable,” she responded. “Ha ha.”

SZA clarified in a follow-up post that she was speaking to a fan account and not responding to BBL’s remarks.

“You guys do realize I mean it differently because I’m no longer doing live+talk and communicating with you like that,” she added. “No different than changing my appearance.”

SZA reflects on relationship with fans

In a recent interview, SZA revealed that despite her meteoric rise to fame, she still strives to maintain a close relationship with her fans.

She reflected on the “intimate” connection she had with her fans early in her career, which she “desperately tried to maintain.”

SZA now selects a few fans to meet her backstage and have an “A-Team” group chat with her die-hard fans.

“(Chatted to) the fan page on the first day and then (who) became my friends. They kept me in the loop about everything,” SZA told British Vogue. “I’d be like, ‘Guys, should I delete this?’ And they’d be like, ‘No, you’re fine, but you should probably drop this other version of the song because people want to hear it. “They let me know so I didn’t have to look it up online.
