In the future, we will see epic classic collaborations. AllHipHop’s Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur interviews legendary, iconic hip-hop artist Bun B of UGK fame and DMC of iconic band Run-DMC. They all take part in a new song called “Bun DMC,” which is the brainchild of Boston rapper and producer Marco Polo (aka Polovision). This conversation goes beyond music and delves into the nature of hip-hop and where the culture is headed across generations.

All Hip Hop: Yo! AllHipHop is in the building. We’re here with the King himself, Bun B, and the legendary DMC. It’s great to see you all growing up healthy here. So, let’s get right into it – how did this collaboration come together?

Bun B: This has been brewing for a while. The songs we produced were recorded over a year ago. We connected through Marco Polo, who put the song together. It was a great record and we were waiting for the right time to drop it. Timing is everything – we want to make sure everything goes smoothly.

I had DMC come with me to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March a few months ago, but this song was written before that show. It is an honor to work with DMC, one of the founding members of this culture. This is someone I’ve looked up to for years and made me want to be an MC. It’s surreal to call him a friend and collaborator now. This collaboration shows that no matter what generation, we represent culture. There is room for everyone to contribute.

AllHipHop: Absolutely. It’s great to see legends and newcomers working together like this. Bun, I remember you once invited me to church, which was crazy to me. Thank you for always keeping it real. DMC, what are your thoughts on this?

DMC: I’ve been saying for years that we need to rebrand hip-hop. I recently saw someone online talking about how we have let it lose its essence. See, anything sacred to a culture is diluted once it becomes commercialized. While commercialization has its benefits, we have a responsibility to maintain the authenticity, integrity, and universal appeal of hip-hop.

I’ve been traveling around the world since Run-DMC released their debut album in 1984. For example, [Chuck D of Public Enemy] Just told me that he and Ice-T went to Croatia during the war and they stopped fighting just to watch them perform. That’s the power of this culture—it unifies.

This collaboration, this video [“Bun DMC”]represents the true meaning of hip-hop. You have Bun B, a Texas legend and king of the underground. A young artist connects generations through a choir. Marco Polo represented another generation, and then there was me. Together, we showcase to culture and business the essence of hip-hop—unity and collaboration.

Marco Polo: First of all, hats off to AllHipHop for documenting this culture at such a high level. This song is inspired by everything AllHipHop stands for. It’s like the perfect atmosphere for what you guys do.

We have a crazy creative process. Bailey finished the chorus in 15 minutes – it’s so hot. Cliff Smoke generated the beat and everything just flowed from there. Everyone brought out the best in themselves. Bun and DMC wrote their verses and we made something really special. The song is retro hip-hop with a modern twist.

DMC: That’s right. This record is about breaking the rules and showing off what hip-hop has to offer. It’s not just about making music, it’s about creating moments. We have young artists, OGs, Texas, New York – it’s all here. It’s a celebration of hip-hop’s 51st anniversary, and we still have a lot of work to do. This collaboration is just the beginning.

AllHipHop: Well said. Thank you all for taking the time and continuing to push the culture forward. We can’t wait to see the video and listen to the track. Any final words?

DMC: That’s it – hip-hop is for everyone. Let’s keep building together. stay tuned!

All Hip Hop: Perfect. Thank you Bun, DMC, Marco Polo and everyone involved. Let’s get it!
