Lil Pump will forever be remembered as the “Gucci Gang.” He’s had greater success and had other viral moments throughout his career, but his breakthrough single remains his calling card. Case in point: Lil Pump decided to perform “Gucci Gang” at a recent family celebration. The rapper’s grandmother turned 90, so he decided to celebrate the best way he knew how: with a viral performance. Pump decided to put his grandmother center stage and serenade her with his Soundcloud hits.
The footage of Lil Pump performing for a 90-year-old woman is surreal enough in itself. What takes it over the top, however, is the way the shots are presented. Pump’s grandmother sat at a table and looked around while the rapper climbed on the table with a microphone. The rapper then repeats the riff right next to her. Yes, you are correct in inferring that he was not wearing a shirt when all this happened. There’s a strange logic to Lil Pump’s decision. While “Gucci Gang” isn’t quite grandma-friendly, there is one lyric that directly references her.
Lil Pump mentions his grandmother in lyrics
“My lean costs are higher than your rent, oh (it’s true),” Lil Pump raps. “Your mom’s still living in a tent, huh (Brr). Still injecting drugs, huh? (Yeah). Me and my grandma taking pills, oh (huh?).” If Lil Pump had to perform for his grandma song (he really didn’t have to), then “Gucci Gang” does make sense. The viral birthday performance marked the first time in years that Lil Pump wasn’t in the news for his political statements. The Florida rapper has become one of the most outspoken Donald Trump fans in hip-hop, so much so that he criticized other rappers for their anti-Trump stance.
Lil Pump slammed Eminem for supporting Kamala Harris during the recent presidential election. Aim began focusing on social media after he introduced Barack Obama at a Harris campaign rally. His anger was not contained. “It’s so bad that you got on stage and spoke at Kamala Harris’s speech,” Lil Pump exclaimed. “You’re such an asshole for taking pictures with Obama.” He also took aim at Eminem’s daughter. “Fuck you and fuck Hailey.”
