After more than a year of teasing and promises, in addition to additional mixing delays, SZA’s SOS Deluxe: LANA is finally here. The original 23 songs were filled with hits. “Snooze,” “Days of Our Lives,” “Kill Bill,” and more. It wasn’t until today that SZA made her intentions for this bonus release clear. “I think I’m making music from a more beautiful place. From a more possible place rather than a more anxious place.” She continued, “I don’t identify with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s Shit happened to me. Yeah, I went through it brutally. I had to let it go at some point, and my music was changing because of it, the lighter I got.
You can definitely hear SZA sounding freer and enjoying life more. For example, in “Diamond Boy” she talks about how crazy she is about this guy. On SOS, there were more songs about disdain for relationships, and the track list was littered with breakup songs (“Kill Bill” being a perfect example). But some themes remain. In one of the trailers, “Drive,” SZA struggles to maintain her goals due to outside distractions. Still, it makes sense why mixtures exist. After all, she did say that “little by little” her “music is changing.” Please view SOS Deluxe Edition via the following link: LANA.
