Jacquees recently joined Chris Brown to reflect on key moments in his career, while also debunking industry rumors surrounding Cash Money music executive Birdman.

In a candid exchange with The Breakfast Club, the R&B star revealed that he was once close to signing with Chris Brown, but ultimately signed a deal with Birdman and Slim’s Cash Money Records.

In doing so, he explained how Brown has been like a “big brother” to him since he was 18 and defended Stunna against ongoing claims that he and Cash Money don’t pay their artists. Jacques began by sharing how Brown brought him under his wing early on, even before he connected with Birdman.

Jaquez said he never had a problem getting paid by the Birds and said he originally planned to sign with Chris Brown

“Chris is probably the person in this industry who has been the biggest mentor to me,” Jaquez said. “When I was touring with Tink, Chris would call me every day. My voice was messed up and he would tell me to stop smoking, drink this, do that. Every day, he would come over and ask me how my voice felt. Jaquez even recalled living in Brown’s Hollywood home after high school, saying that period made him feel like “I was 18 again.”

As he continued, the King of R&B singer explained how Brown’s plan to sign him fell through due to personal issues the “No Guidance” singer was facing at the time.

“Before I signed with Cash Money, I should have signed with Chris Brown,” he said.

When asked why the trade didn’t happen, Jacques explained, “Chris had to go to rehab.”

He continued, “This was like 2014, 2015, right before he had his first child, Royalty.”

Jacquees added that when Chris found out he was signed to Cash Money, he jokingly asked for some money.

“When he came back he said, ‘N####, you signed with Birdman. I need some money. But he was just playing.

While some may wonder if he regrets not waiting for Chris, Jaquez didn’t hesitate.

“No, I have no regrets in my life,” he said. “I love being around cash. That’s my dream.

The interview also gave Jacques a chance to clear up longstanding rumors that Birdman didn’t pay artists – a rumor he dismissed while also emphasizing the importance of personal relationships.

“I always tell people I support Stuna,” he said. “I’ve always been great with Stuna and Slim. They’re fantastic.

Jacques made it clear that he was focused on his own career and not involved in other people’s financial matters. “I’ve never been the type to pry into other people’s business. I’m a man at the end of the day. I have to feed mine.

Jacques also mentioned that his relationship with Birdman remains strong, despite occasional tensions.

“Oh, I like Stuna,” he said. “I think he’s blocked my number now, though,” he joked, revealing that the fallout stemmed from his desire to attend Lil Weezyana Fest. Despite some issues, Jacquees signed with Cash Money and continues to work with the brand.
