Kendrick Lamar’s new GNX album debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the second-biggest rap debut of 2024.
Kendrick Lamar’s GNX tops Billboard 200 chart
On Sunday (December 1), Billboard revealed the top 10 for the new Billboard 200 chart, and it’s no surprise that K-Dot’s latest effort topped the list. GNX achieved 319,000 equivalent album sales in its first week of release. This marks Kendrick’s fifth consecutive No. 1 album. The new 12 songs garnered 379.72 million on-demand streams and 32,000 album sales.
“GNX” is Kendrick Lamar’s third-biggest debut album, behind 2017’s “DAMN.” (603,000 EAUs in its first week) and 2015’s “To Pimp a Butterfly” (324,000 EAU).
K-Dot’s new album features guest appearances from SZA, Roddy Ricch, and Los Angeles underground artists such as Left Gunplay, Hitta J3, Dody6, and Wallie The Sensei. Dot released the surprise project without prior notice on November 22 after hinting at new music for the past few months.
Kendrick’s new album comes after being nominated for seven Grammy Awards at next year’s ceremony. “Not Like Us” received five nominations for Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Record of the Year and Best Music Video.
