Nicholas Craven returns with Tha God Fahim for his 47th EP. Starting out as an affiliate of Griselda Records and becoming 1/3 of the Dump Gawds along with Mach-Hommy & Your Old Droog, we can’t ignore the vast amount of records he has made for himself, some of his standouts include Breaking Through the Van Allen Belt and Dumping Assassins. But this guy has a crazy EP coming out in 2023, the best of which are the Camoflauge Monk-produced Dark Shogunn Assassin, the Nature Sounds-backed Iron Bull and the Nicholas Craven-produced Dump Gawd: Shot Clock King series, Oh No- by Dump Gawd: Rhyme Pays by Mike Shabb, Tha Supreme Hoarder of All Pristine Wealth by Cookin’ Soul, Supreme Dump Legend: Soul Cook Saga and most recently Machine Gun Vocabulary by Cartune Beatz. It’s been 5 years since The Myth of Never Give Up, we had the second and third installments last month and they are keeping the dump going with Dump Gawd: Hyperbolic Time Chamber Rap.
“Saiyan Pride” is a soulful boom-bap intro that reminds us of the fact that his catalog is vast beyond the mystical energy he always brings, while “The Nightmare You Can’t Come Back” features The chipmunk soul instrumental form asks who is as lyrical as he is. “Dump Dynasty” connects the guitar sample with more kick and snare, changing it up by breathing fire before “10x Gravity” talks fondly about power levels he can’t map or calculate.
As for “Tha Riddle of Steel,” we have Fahim on the flute warning of what happens if you fuck with the known unknown, right before “LSSJ” completely strips away the drums and talks about the MC trying to weather the storm. “Hyperbolic Time Chamber Rap 2” is the original sequel to the brilliant work of “Myth Who Never Quit 3”, leading into “Tha Supreme Kai of Bean Pies” and having MC encounter the death-sampled soul again, but then “Repetition” closes out the EP’s rhymes , like a storm is brewing.
Breadrick Douglas and the greatest hip-hop producer to come out of Montreal give Tha Myth Who Never Quit 2 and Tha Myth Who Never Quit 3 two weeks to catch their breath and return to their previous EP took the same energy of the original “Hyperbolic Time Chamber Rap” track and transformed it into its own 20-minute EP. Nicholas Craven’s chipmunk-soul pounding beats and drum-less vocals always bring out the best in Dump Gawd, except I like it more than Tha Myth Who Never Quit 3 and almost as much as Tha Myth Who Never Quit 2》Like it all the same.
