Drake is the king of Toronto. The rapper gave the city a musical identity, and his co-signs always meant a lot when artists came to perform. Nicki Minaj, PARTYNEXTDOOR and now Latto all embody this. Drake attended Latto’s Toronto concert on November 7, and his appearance delighted the rapper and the audience alike. However, things get even more exciting when Liushen decides to sing during the concert.
Drake got the mic, and he joined the rapper for a performance of his Lato collaboration “Housekeeping Knows.” It was a fun impromptu moment, especially since the Toronto icon never even left his seat in the audience. 6 God just stood up and spat out his iron bars on the spot. He seemed to be having a great time before handing it over to Lato to complete the rest of the song. Drake and Lato have long admired each other’s music. Lato credited Drake (along with Kendrick Lamar) for helping restore hip-hop’s competitiveness earlier this year.
Lato is often compared to Drake
“They’re still that nigga, they’re still the GOAT,” Lato told Billboard . “It’s too bad for the culture, man. They’re both talented, and they’re all showing off their talent and ability.” LaTow has also embraced the Drake comparison over the years. The most notable is her new album Sugar Honey Iced Tea. Fans suddenly labeled this album “Drake-coded” and felt that Latto had inherited the mantle of female Drake. Some even call her the First Lady of OVO, despite the fact that she’s not signed to the Toronto brand.
Lato doesn’t shy away from these comparisons. When one Twitter user cited her as an example of Liushen’s influence, she agreed. “Drake the goat,” she tweeted in response. This will undoubtedly benefit her in the long run. “Housekeeping Knows” entered the Hot 100, becoming Lato’s tenth single to chart. The fact that Drake showed up to perform and lend his support also says a lot. He usually only appears in front of long-term collaborators. I hope we can have more collaborations between Drizzy and Latto in the future.
