The world may be processing the U.S. election, but Pulis is filing a lawsuit. The veteran rapper caused a stir on November 6 when he sued Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla and Soulja Boy. He claims the artists stole elements of his 2008 song “Me & My Goons” without clear consultation with him. Plies is seeking damages for the alleged copyright infringement, which also includes Megan Thee Stallion’s label Hot Girl Productions and Soulja’s Collipark Productions. Now, however, Megan’s producer is clapping back at the rapper.
LilJuMadeDaBeat, the producer of the Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla songs at the center of the lawsuit, broke the news on social media Wednesday night. He claims that the song in question, “Wanna Be,” correctly credits Big E with its sample. issued. “‘My Dougie’ came out in 2006, ‘Me & My Goons’ came out in 2008,” he tweeted. “Big E, the producer of ‘My Dougie,’ credits ‘Wanna Be.'”
Lil Ju went a step further and pointed out more holes in Plies’ lawsuit. Megan Thee Stallion’s producer notes that Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag” is also a remake of “My Dougie.” He also claimed that the Plies song in question didn’t even originate from the album Plies claimed. “‘Me & My Goons’ wasn’t actually even a single from the Plies album,” he asserts. The producer made some convincing arguments that Plies couldn’t sue Soulja Boy if Soulja’s song was released before his song. Additionally, Lil Ju seems confident that his sample credits cover his bases.
However, it makes sense that Pulis would want a big chunk of “Wanna Be.” The single was everywhere when it was released in April. It peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming GloRilla’s biggest single as a lead singer to date. It also proved to be another big hit for Megan Thee Stallion, following “HIS” which topped the charts in January. The song even got a remix featuring Cardi B.
