2024 is filled with hip-hop highlights. While the cultural experience is a celebratory moment, the rap world has also been rocked multiple times by the deaths of members of the hip-hop community. In honor of those we have lost so far this year, XXL reflects on their lives.
Rappers who died in 2024
Chino XL and DJ Polo died at home in July at the ages of 50 and 63 respectively. Back in June, former 1017 rapper Enchanting unfortunately passed away at the age of 26. passed away. Following her death, condolences poured in from the hip-hop community, including Coi Leray, Yella Beezy and her former label head Gucci Mane, who wrote on Instagram: “So sad to have to pay tribute to such a great young lady, Rest in peace from a true star. Her death was later ruled an accidental drug overdose.
Although not a rapper, DJ Mister Cee is an integral part of the hip-hop community and one of its most respected record producers. Shockingly, the former Hot 97 mainstay passed away on April 10 at the age of 57 from diabetes-related coronary and kidney disease. Rich Homie Quan’s death in September at the age of 34 also rocked the hip-hop world. It was later confirmed that he had also died of a drug overdose.
The death of DJ Clark Kent in October also shocked the hip-hop world. The beloved record producer and DJ passed away after a years-long battle with colon cancer.
