Fulton County Judge Paige Reese Whitaker on Thursday (Oct. 31) after Young Thug pleaded guilty to charges of participating in a criminal street gang, violating Georgia controlled substance laws and multiple firearms offenses. The verdict was passed immediately. Young Thug was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with five years served, but was commuted to 15 years in prison with 20 years suspended.
She also ordered the rapper to pay multiple fines and be banned from attending events on Cleveland Avenue except to visit immediate family members. He must also stay away from gang members and must not promote the gang in any way. Thug will also be required to perform 100 hours of community service each year while on probation. He will be released today.
The verdict came after a lengthy hearing in which the prosecution and defense laid out abbreviated versions of their cases. The state recommended a 45-year sentence, with 25 incarcerated and 20 suspended, as well as the confiscation of the rapper’s property. Thug previously rejected a plea deal that offered him a 43-year sentence, which would put him on probation for 15 years if he were released today.
Jeffrey Williams, a Young Thug, is the fourth co-defendant to plead guilty in the trial in the past few days, joining Quamarvious Nichols, Rodalius Ryan and Marquavius Huey. Deamonte “Yak Gotti” Kendrick and Shannon Stillwell are the only three remaining defendants in the case. Kendrick and Stillwell were charged with the 2015 murder of Donovan Thomas.
On May 9, 2022, Young Thug, Gunna and 26 other members of Thugger’s YSL group were arrested in a massive RICO case in Georgia charging the group with racketeering, murder, armed robbery and involvement in street gang criminal activity . After initially pleading not guilty, Sager and five co-defendants attended the trial and others involved in the case accepted plea deals.
The trial lasted nearly a year and was the longest in Georgia history. However, jurors considered a mistrial last week after a witness revealed information on the stand that the jury was not supposed to know, opening the door for the remaining suspects to enter pleas.
