The Georgia Medical Examiner’s Office has released the cause of death of Rich Homie Quan.
The rapper died from a drug overdose, which was a fatal combination of fentanyl, alprazolam (Xanax), codeine and promethazine. The medical examiner said Wednesday the rapper’s death was ruled an accident. Rich Homie Quan (real name Dequantes Devontay Lamar) passed away in his hometown of Atlanta on September 5. The news sent shockwaves through the industry. He is 33 years old.
Amber Williams, Rich Homie Quan’s girlfriend, told police she found the artist unresponsive before his death at Grady Memorial Hospital, according to obtained 911 call recordings.
His brother told police he thought Quan was asleep on the floor next to the kitchen, then picked him up and put him on the couch, saying it was “very unusual” to see him with food in his mouth.
One day after the rapper’s death, his father Corey Lamar took to Instagram to mourn his son, writing that he was in “unbearable pain.”
“Lord, please help me understand this,” he said on Instagram. “Losing my son (my first child), my best friend. Lord, please let this be a dream… You pray for me and my family.”
He added: “I felt like I was crushed into a million pieces.”
