Chino XL’s cause of death revealed
On Friday (September 27), TMZ provided an update on the late New Jersey rapper’s cause of death. Chino, born Derek Barbosa, died by suicide, according to a statement from Chino XL’s family shared by the celebrity news site.
“It is with the deepest sadness imaginable that we share the news that our beloved father has decided to take his own life,” the statement read. “This is the most painful and personal experience of our lives, but in memory of suicide Awareness Month, we decided to share this truth in the hope that this message can help others stay alive.”
TMZ reports that the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office listed Chino’s cause of death as ligature asphyxia.

Chino XL died on July 28 at the age of 50.
