Tory Lanez is blaming the situation on a larger conspiracy after news broke that he had to unceremoniously end his “Jail Tapes” series.
The singer and rapper, who is serving a 10-year sentence for the shooting death of Megan Thee Stallion, had his studio equipment confiscated by guards during a cell raid at the California Correctional Facility, TMZ previously reported. This prison serves a sentence.
Kesar McDowell, chief executive of United People and chief deputy on the Conservative legal team, confirmed the news, saying he had learned from prison officials that inmates were strictly prohibited from possessing recording devices for a variety of reasons.
Lanez launched Prison Tapes in July and released nine songs recorded in prison, as well as several other previously unreleased tracks from his Lost Tapes and Twitch Tapes series.
Tory publicly said on Instagram on Tuesday (September 10) that he felt shut down because prison officials knew he was helping other inmates gain freedom.
“The rumors are true. The jail tapes will be suspended until further notice,” he began. “However, I think it’s important for my fans to know the crooked truth about what’s really going on here. My cell wasn’t raided and destroyed because I learned how to record myself in prison, or because I wrote ” Prison Tapes. I was shut down because HIGHER UPS figured out what I was really doing with the prison tapes and how many inmates had received life-changing help because of them.
“From the first day I was incarcerated, all I saw was black people and other minorities being subjected to the most cruel, illegal and unfair punishment/treatment. Many nights I prayed to God to reveal Him to me going through the prison system The purpose of ills. I was later shown this purpose. I was put in prison to suffer, to feel and see firsthand the pain and oppression of young black and brown men and women of my generation. I knew I had to change this. kind of injustice.
“So, I made a plan that when I was in prison, I would figure out a way to record music and use all the proceeds to provide legal representation for my fellow inmates and give them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go home. The families were appealing and Heavy sentence. Although “HIGHER UPS” temporarily stopped “Prison Tapes”, they were too late to stop my overall plan. Since July, I have provided legal representation to 472 prisoners and actively reopened 476 cases.
He concluded: “With the help of the ‘UNITE THE PEOPLE’ law firm, many prisoners will return to their families and relatives. I named this project ‘The Hand of God Project’. At the end of the day, they know I’m a threat and they don’t want me to say or do this, so if anything happens to me, just know that I’m going out in a blaze of glory trying to revolutionize the end of the era of mass incarceration for our people.”
Announcing the weekly series, Tory Lanez said he had found a way to record music in prison while getting the same high-quality sound as a professional recording studio.
“After about 20 to 30 more stumbles and mistakes, my engineer and I finally figured out how to record music through a prison phone while still maintaining the same professional quality as if it were recorded on the street,” he said A recording of a phone call posted on Instagram.
“It’s over. I’ve cracked the damn code, man. Which means not even these prison walls can stop me from releasing new music. That’s crazy! That being said, I’m about to start dropping hot coals on Over your heads. I’m dropping a brand new “Free Tory” playlist – which will be updated weekly with new music I recorded in real time while in prison.
He added: “For the first time, although God has shown me that this moment is only temporary, it is a testament to the fact that no matter where they put me, they can’t lock my spirit, my Ambition, my soul, my passion, are not my destiny either!
