Kid Cudi’s breakout single “Day N Nite” has officially been certified Diamond by the RIAA, reaching a major milestone in his illustrious career.
The soon-to-be “lonely addict” anthem first gained traction on MySpace and was instrumental in establishing Kid Cudi as a leader in hip-hop and a pioneer in the genre’s fusion of alternative and electronic elements. In a heartfelt tweet, Kid Cudi shared the exciting news with his fans and took a moment to recognize the gravity of the hit song 15 years after it was first released. During the process, Cudi gave a shout-out to his right-hand man, rhyme partner and producer Dot Da Genius.
Kid Cudi tweeted: “Just got the news that Day n Nite has now been upgraded to Diamond!!!”. “My second diamond record, the first song I ever made with my brother @DotDaGenius that changed our lives and so many others forever. As Cudi mentioned, this isn’t the first time he’s celebrated one of his hits reaching the coveted feat. His fan-favorite song “Pursuit Of Happiness,” featuring MGMT and Ratatat, was also certified Diamond and became one of Kid Cudi’s most iconic and enduring songs over the years. The fact that both of his diamond hits came from his debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, is even more proof of the impact the project had when it was released in 2009.
“Day N Nite” is the lead single from Kid Cudi’s debut studio album “Man on the Moon: The End of Day” released in September 2009. Sales reached 104,000 copies in the first week. It subsequently received double platinum certification from the RIAA and has sold over 2 million copies in the United States.
Kid Cudi’s impact on the music industry is undeniable, but it seems being considered one of the most influential artists of his time wasn’t enough for him. In a follow-up tweet, the “Cudi” hitmaker revealed that he’s excited about starring in a horror movie and revealed that he’s fulfilled another one of his dreams.
