Ice-T fires up a fan who claims ‘Law & Order: SVU’ is ‘awakened’

Ice-T has had an amazing career. He was a superstar rapper in the 1980s, but over the past two decades he’s become best known for his role on Law & Order: SVU. The man who once rapped about killing cops has found a second career playing cops. That being said, Ice-T has a way with his words. On August 27, he interacted with an angry SVU fan on Twitter. When fans criticized Ice-T and the rest of the cast for making the show “woke,” Ice-T blamed the fans.

The whole thing started innocently enough. Ice-T said on Twitter that he will be returning to the “SVU” set to begin filming new episodes. One fan then asked if the show would return to normal after what he considered a lackluster season. “Have they written SVU back to normal?” they asked. “It’s starting to wake up.” Ice-T later wrote back with a very interesting response. “Wake the fuck up,” he tweeted. “Haha, like I’m obnoxious.” We don’t understand why he decided to censor the first swear word but not the second, but it works. A second user doubled down on the “woke” accusation, offering a strangely specific explanation of what the term means.

Ice-T manages to insult John Wayne in exchange for his

“Wake up means tearing down my John Wayne statue,” said a second user. “And forced me to build a Spider-Man fountain and spray gay beer on my lawn, turning it into Astor Turf.” Ice-T had another interesting response. “That sounds terrible,” he tweeted back. “John Wayne.” Ice happily mocked the group in his reply, but he did post a third tweet to clarify his political stance. His stance is to try not to engage in politics in public spaces. “I stay away from political garbage,” he explains. “Like I said before…blue vs. red…it’s GangBangin to me.”

Ice-T acknowledged the complexities of playing a cop while being critical of law enforcement as a whole. He told Variety that he can understand why some fans think he’s a hypocrite. “People say our TV show is police propaganda,” he points out. “I understand the argument.” After noting that he’s the “farthest thing” from a cop in real life, Ice-T explained that SVU creator Dick Wolf hired him to play a cop struggling to do the right thing. “If I play the cop we need,” the rapper said. “I won’t have any problem.”
