Troy Ave has been released from prison after serving less than a year in prison for his role in the 2016 fatal shooting in New York City’s Irving Plaza.
The outspoken rapper took to Instagram on Monday (August 26) to share a photo of himself outside Rikers Island wearing sunglasses, a face mask and holding up a bag of cash. He simply wrote in the caption: “Yaboi comes home!!”

Troy Ave filed a complaint in court in February, demanding accountability for his role in a shooting involving podcast host Tucker Stone. The incident claimed the life of Troy Ive’s bodyguard, Ronald “Banga” McFate. Before the hearing, he shared a video on his Instagram account.
“Well, you might lie to me, you might not see me for a while,” he said at the time. “But know the streets are a myth. All the people who were in the car with me, I ended up taking the gun. Someone shot me, and instead of lying down and waiting to die, I became a hero, a martyr, and I took the gun , retreated whole body.
“This is what you get. This is the consequence. But we don’t cry over spilled milk. We take lemons and make lemonade. God is great and the paper is straight. Y’all stay calm. Y’all keep running Go ahead. Send prayers. Prayers are more important than anything else.
Troy Ive’s attorney, John B. Stella, released an official statement shortly after the sentencing. He wrote: “Roland Collins [Troy Ave] Sentenced to 1 year in prison on February 9, 2024, on a charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. By law, he must serve eight months in prison. Since he had already spent nearly two months in jail before being released on bail, he had just over six months remaining to serve.
Tuckerstone was sentenced to 35 years in prison for his role.
