Rick Ross sends an ominous message to music industry insiders: Watch

Rick Ross considers himself both a rapper and a businessman. Hence all the “boss” talk. He runs MMG and has been a vocal critic of record companies that don’t handle artist relationships properly. This was part of the reason Ross and Birdman fell out. However, Rick Ross decided to set his goals higher than the founder of Cash Money. The rapper took to Instagram Live on August 23 to announce that the music industry was about to take the music world by storm. He wants to help clear out all deep-rooted corruption.

“As an artist, I’m also a businessman,” Rick Ross told his followers. “There’s a lot of change happening at the top of the industry. I want to know the ramifications.” The rapper went on to name several notable industry figures who have been fired in recent years. “When you see industry giants being replaced, is that a good thing?” he questioned. “Is this a bad thing? What do you think? Are they no longer on the hunt for the next Ice Spice?” Rick Ross asked the audience to address these questions before moving on.

Rick Ross compares music industry to ‘Game of Thrones’

The MMG boss has made it clear that change is coming and he will be part of it. No matter where he was taken. He even dished out a tirade similar to Game of Thrones and the way power changes hands. “Kings and queens are being beheaded,” he pointed out. Then he quoted one of his own songs. “This game is not based on sympathy,” he asserted. “So if higher ups can find someone better and cheaper to do it, your fucking head will be spinning next.”

Rick Ross isn’t the only rapper talking about industry politics. Kanye West, a frequent Rozay collaborator, was embroiled in a very public battle with Atlantic Records. West claims the label threatened to pull his last two albums from streaming platforms. He also said longtime Atlantic executive Julie Greenwald had been fired. Rick Ross has previously stated that he wants to sign Kanye West to MMG. Now, however, it appears that both rappers are aiming to maintain control of what they have.

He likes L.A. hip-hop, but not L.A. sports teams. The first album he bought was Will Smith’s “Big Willie Style,” which he thinks still sounds great.
