Justin Timberlake’s attorneys argue that the singer was never actually under the influence when he was recently arrested for drunk driving in Sag Harbor, New York. His lawyer, Edward Burke, made that argument during a hearing in the case on Friday. He claimed police made several “very significant” mistakes during the arrest.
“The most important fact to know about this case is that Justin was not drunk and should not have been arrested for drunk driving,” Burke said in a statement obtained by CNN. “Police in this case Made some very big mistakes.”

Burke continued, “Justin respects law enforcement and the very important work they do. He always cooperates with the police and treats them with the respect they deserve. He also respects the entire judicial process, including the district attorney and the judge who appeared in court today. . But the fact is, he was not drunk and they were wrong to arrest him for that. We are confident that the charge will be dismissed.
Police pulled Timberlake over for failing to stop, run a stop sign and stay in his lane. Additionally, they claim he admitted to drinking “a martini” before driving. An officer described him as having “slow speech” and performing “poorly” on all standardized field sobriety tests. An arraignment in the case is scheduled for next month.
