It’s no secret that Vanessa Bryan and Kobe Bryant’s parents weren’t particularly close in general. In fact, Kobe himself had some disputes with his parents. However, when Kobe passed away, Vanessa could no longer reconcile with Kobe’s family. Kobe Bryant’s father, Joe Bryant, died on Tuesday at the age of 69.
“We express our condolences upon hearing the news of my father-in-law’s passing. We wish things could have been different,” Bryant wrote. “Although we had very little time together, he was always sweet and kind. Kobe loved him very much. Our prayers go out to the family. Unfortunately, her comments are currently receiving some harsh criticism online.” At DJ In the comments section of Akademiks’ page, some fans felt she could have avoided making a statement at all.

“This is the weirdest condolence I’ve ever seen. Vanessa, you’d better say nothing!” one person wrote. “Vanessa, this is a call. Sorry, she can keep this,” said another. Similar sentiments accompanied many of the comments, although ours was much harsher. Needless to say, it feels like fans are mobbing Kobe right now. Regardless, it has been a very difficult few years for the family. We hope everyone involved finds peace.
