Whether you’re a hip-hop veteran or new to the scene, there’s no one who hasn’t heard of the legendary Mobb Deep.

If that still doesn’t jog your memory, we suggest you sit down and slip on the “Shook Ones, Pt.” II’, familiarize yourself with one of the most timeless beats in hip-hop history; an instrumental by Havoc and Prodigy. Now, if you’ve been blown away before, it’s time to be blown away again, because Havoc have just teased new Mobb Deep music produced by The Alchemist – and yes, that hints at the official release of the late Prodigy’s verses.

This is likely to be a full album project in progress. Havoc announced on Instagram that he was at ALC Studios with Alchemist working in the back, saying that new music from one of the most memorable hip-hop duos of all time is coming soon. Joined by Alchemist, who just had success with Drake on Kendrick’s “Meet the Grahams” diss track, and of course, his project is also part of Gangrene, the latest collaboration is about to become a classic.

The song is particularly monumental not only because it transcends a generation-defining sound, but because it demonstrates the power of music long after the artist has passed away. In and of itself, this moment is a wonderful testament to the culture. While some fans have expressed doubts about the effectiveness of such a release, many believe The Alchemist is the right producer to take on such a task and do justice to Prodigy and his masterful calligraphy. The only thing left now is to see if it all actually falls into place. Will we be building on this with more improv classics? We don’t know, but we’re definitely as excited as you are!

Mobb Deep’s Havoc just posted on insta that he’s working on some new Mobb Deep music with Alchemist in the studio, which means there are still unreleased Prodigy verses pic.twitter.com/9UfGSCHmNN

Finally, the alchemist himself reminded me:

Mobb Deep is still the best group ever. Havoc and myself may have to remind you soon.
