Kendrick Lamar is setting the music world on fire again. Today he finally released his highly anticipated music video for “Not Like Us.” While there are many obvious and not-so-obvious Easter eggs hidden throughout the film, there’s one undeniable presence right at the beginning. In fact, he gave listeners a taste of an unreleased track and previewed new music within the first 20 seconds of the film. Audiences were delighted to hear that he was indeed about to release new music.
The music video begins with Lamar’s signature introspection. The beat is underpinned by the unmistakable vocals of Mustard, who have become synonymous with the West Coast sound. At the beginning of the visual, there’s a static shot of Compton Courthouse. We then see a flashing black and white image of Kendrick in the hallway before he sings the lyrics: “I’m reincarnated, I’m stargazing/Life goes on, I need all my kids. Wake up and find broccoli/ Hotkey, honk at me, kamasi/IP ownership, blueprint by me/get off sir, I get off at my feet.
