DJ Mustard Hall of Fame plaque mounted. He is one of the most iconic producers of the 2010s. He just had his first No. 1 single with Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” He is arguably the most famous West Coast producer of the 21st century. He could retire from music today and be considered an icon. DJ Mustard, however, had no such plans. The producer is gearing up for his most ambitious album to date, Mustard Seed’s Faith, on which he plans to debut as a rapper.

Initially, Faith of a Mustard Seed was positioned as a classic DJ Mustard event. That is, loaded with guest functionality and fast production. Both elements will be present on the new album, but Mustard felt the need to take a more personal approach. He discussed his decision to take up the microphone in a recent interview with Real 92.3 LA. “There’s a song on my album that I ended up rapping on,” he told the host. “This is the most vulnerable [moment]because I’ve never rapped, nothing like that.

DJ Mustard hopes to convey his lyrical vision to fans

What made DJ Mustard change his mind? He wanted to provide perspective to his audience. “I stayed behind the board for so long that no one heard my perspective,” the product noted. “When it comes to anything. Family or friends… I think now is the time.” Mustard went on to say that the last five years of his life have been particularly dramatic, from COVID to divorce to starting a relationship. New relationships. He felt that he had finally accumulated enough material to make it worth giving up a poem. “Sometimes people need to hear it from you,” he said.

DJ Mustard’s personal life has been a topic of discussion lately. The producer is embroiled in a legal dispute with his ex-wife over custody issues. Controversy also arose when Drake, the target of Mustard’s “Not Like Us,” began stalking the producer’s ex on Instagram. Fans criticized Liu Shen for his sneaky behavior and Wasabi’s ex stalking him. Most famous rappers have taken shots at Drake in 2024, so DJ Mustard is likely to be among them. Mustard rocked a Drake hometown baseball cap during the filming of “Not Like Us,” but he later claimed he wasn’t trying to be a prank.
