Mustard revealed that even before his historic rap battle with Drake began, he was sending tons of beats to Kendrick Lamar multiple times a day.
		
During a recent appearance on “Big Boy’s Neighborhood,” the “Not Like Us” hitmaker discussed his experience performing at Lamar Unified’s June concert “The Pop-Out: Ken & Friends,” K. Dot Rap feud with Drizzy and all. Along the way, Mustard describes how years of persistence led to a partnership with Kendrick that resulted in a successful first place finish in their first collaboration.
“I send him five beats a day before I give him the whole beef,” he said. “I’m just making my album like I really want to do it with [Kendrick]…I’ve been trying to write songs with him for years.
When Big Boy responded, “How many beats do you think you sent Kendrick?” Mustard replied, “Maybe 100? Maybe 50? 60?” and went on to confirm that he was dedicated to Kendrick Lamar every day at the time. ) to make five beats by anyone other than.
“Any beats I sent him, no one ever heard those beats,” he said.

Mustard added that he has no hesitation in getting Kendrick Lamar excited with the beat because he believes “it only takes one.” Mustard went on to reveal that he initially heard “Not Like Us” just like the rest of us and didn’t actually have any hints before the song was released.
“[During the beef], the text messages I sent him were all beats… normal ###,” he said. “We didn’t talk about beef at all.
“[When ‘Not Like Us’ dropped]I was on my way to the baby shower…we were on the highway…and I got a text,”[Kendrick] Dropped again,” and then I got another text like, “Mustard on the Rhythm,” and I was like, “What the hell did I miss?” And that’s what I heard while driving on the 405. way, and then I started getting excited…listening to it over and over again. I can not believe it.
