Ludacris recently took to Instagram to share a nostalgic Instagram post called “Throwback Friday,” where he looked back on his time filming the classic movie of the early 2000s, in which he recalled his role as Best Actor Don Cheadle. That nerve-wracking moment of auditioning in front of Don Cheadle.
On Thursday (June 20), the rapper and actor shared a personal anecdote about the high-pressure audition that landed him his breakthrough role in the 2004 film Crash. Ludacris plays Anthony, a thief and right-hand man of Tate’s Peter. Together, the pair deliver a multi-layered storyline in which, over the course of 36 hours, the lives of multiple characters collide amid heightened racial tensions in the city of Los Angeles.
According to the caption on his post, a key factor in whether Ludacris gets the role will depend on how well he reads the script with the film’s star Don Cheadle, whose character Racist womanizer Detective Graham.
“For this role I had to read a true story in front of @doncheadle,” Ludacris began in the caption of the post, which included a clip from a scene from the movie. “I remember being nervous because I had so much respect for him as an actor. But I can only assume it didn’t have much of an impact on my audition because I ended up getting the role.

Despite his nerves, Ludacris said he was impressed by the experience during the audition and went on to elaborate on his thoughts on the importance of the opportunity to work closely with Tate during production.
“Then my dream job came true in addition to another actor I was inspired by, my Virgo brother @larenztate who became my best friend throughout the entire process,” he said.
Ludacris concluded by highlighting the huge success of “Crash,” noting the film’s achievement in winning the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2004.
“In fact, the film won the 2004 Academy Award for Best Picture, and the rest is history,” he wrote.
Tate responded in the comments section of the post, writing: “Truth! Brotherhood is Unbreakable! Classic.
Ludacris’ performance as Anthony in “Crash” was a pivotal moment in his acting career, helping him develop into a versatile actor capable of handling complex roles. Following “Crash,” Ludacris played Taj Parker in high-grossing films such as the “Fast and Furious” series, contributing to the series’ global box office revenue of more than $6 billion. His role in Furious 6 alone brought in $788 million worldwide. Additionally, Ludacris starred in other notable films such as Hustle & Flow and New Year’s Eve, where his performances were both critical and commercial successes.
His growing filmography has not only diversified his career, but also significantly increased his earning potential. Ludacris was offered lucrative contracts, with reports that he earned up to $1 million per film for supporting roles, and much more for starring roles.
