In a nod to one of hip-hop’s most iconic songs, New Orleans has officially declared June 11, 2024, “Back That Azz Up Day” to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Juvenile’s legendary hit. The announcement coincides with the announcement of a national tour of “Boy” to commemorate the song’s lasting impact on music and culture.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued a statement acknowledging the importance of “Back That Azz Up,” produced by Mannie Fresh and starring Lil Wayne.

Originally released on June 11, 1999 as the second single from Juvenile’s 4x Platinum album *400 Degreez*, the song quickly became a cultural phenomenon, topping the charts and becoming a staple in music history . In 2021, it was named one of Rolling Stone’s “500 Best Songs of All Time.”

Important points of the announcement:

– The song has transcended its New Orleans roots to become a beloved anthem around the world.
– it dominated the summer of 1999 and continues to resonate across generations.
– “Back That Azz Up” has become the most played wedding song in America.
– This song unites people in joy and celebration, embodying the unifying power of music.

The boy’s statement:

“I’m beyond excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘Back That Azz Up’ with my fans. This song has been a huge part of my musical journey and it’s great to see that it still resonates with people today. I can’t wait It doesn’t compare to that moment when the song comes on every night on tour,” the teenager shared. He emphasized the importance of his fans in his career, noting that their support and enthusiasm drive the success of his live shows.

Juvenile’s recent 10-song performance at the NPR Music Tiny Desk concert, which included hits such as “Set It Off,” “Slow Motion” and “Back That Azz Up,” further highlighted his timeless talent.
