As we speculated in our last report on Common and Pete Rock’s release of “Wise Up,” the duo is indeed about to release an album – “THE AUDITORIUM, VOL.” 1, expected to be released on July 12, 2024.
Now, whether there will be a series of complete projects as separate volumes is up for debate, although it’s clear that another single from the album has now been released; it’s called “Dreams.” To complement the audio, the VEVO Ctrl session presentation video includes a set of visual effects, as shown below!
The song pays incredible homage to Common’s influence and nearly all hip-hop legends through its lyrics, while Pete Rock’s unique vocal arrangement shines with the brass accompaniment. In the film, the duo can be seen performing the song on a brass-gold set, with plenty of light elevating the nostalgia of hip-hop’s golden age. The off-kilter quality of the single is similar to previous album Wise Up, further suggesting that this upcoming album will follow such a thematic approach to the tracks.
To be clear, this nostalgia isn’t just for fans; Because Common seems to represent the fans of this culture. In fact, when talking about his experience working with Pete Rock, he reportedly said, “Pete Rock is one of the greatest hip-hop and music creators of all time. It was a dream of mine to make an album with him. Once we Coming together, being around him, around all his records and his MPC, I felt the spirit of soul hip-hop that I’ve always loved and why I wanted to be a part of this art form, his beats, his. The production, his scratching, brought me to a place where I could feel free to MC. In more ways than one, Common really made that point for a lot of us.
