50 Cent expressed his sincere gratitude after Taylor Swift mentioned his name on her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The hip-hop mogul discussed the unexpected reference in an exclusive interview with Extra TV.
Swift referenced the rapper in her song “Ruin the Friendship,” with the lyrics: “This isn’t an invitation/But as the 50 Cent song plays (song plays)/I should kiss you anyway (no matter what).”
“It’s really cool because when she mentioned that, if you listen to the song, you can see that this was what was going on in the culture at the time,” 50 Cent explained. “Music, you couldn’t miss it at that time, and that’s why it was cool to me… She was referring to a time when there was no one more prominent in music.”
This reference seems to be related to 50 Cent’s huge commercial success in the 2000s. During Swift’s formative years, his songs dominated radio stations and clubs across the country.
Discussions also touched on a potential musical collaboration between the two artists. 50 Cent expressed his willingness to cooperate with Swift under the right circumstances.
“We have to ask her because she’s in the driver’s seat [seat]. Do you know how old Taylor Swift is now? She had to have a record that sounded like 50 songs that sounded good,” he explains.
Currently, 50 Cent has an extensive media empire spanning multiple entertainment platforms.
He revealed that there are “40 projects across 12 different networks”, “10 of which are now in production”. Two film projects are also scheduled to be completed this year.
