Yung Miami opens up about her relationship with Trina

Yung Miami opens up about her close relationship with Trina in a new conversation with Summer Walker.

Instead of linking up to her Revolt podcast, the former City Girls rapper gave a heartfelt interview with Walker via Apple Music about her new show. During the interview, Yung Miami shared the story behind her relationship with the legendary Miami rapper (who also happens to be her godmother). As Yung Miami describes how she got her iconic rap name, she goes on to explain how Trina has influenced her music and shaped her life since she was a teenager.

“I was talking to someone before, and they used to call me Miami, and I just put Yung in front,” Yung Miami began. “I was like, you know, I’m from Miami and I’m young. I was lit up and this is my city. So, like, when I started rapping, I was like, yeah, Miami 305, claim it.

Yung Miami continued, reflecting on how her connection to Trina feeds into her music.

“Yes, of course, I think I sound a lot like Trina,” she said. “Trina really affected me. You know, that was my godmother. So I love Trina. Like, I’m so grateful for that lady.

Yung Miami fondly recalls her childhood days, sharing her memories of how Trina’s presence left an indelible mark on her life.

“She once took me to a youth fair when I was about 10 years old,” she said. “I’ll never forget it, because I once said, ‘Oh my God, I’m a Celebrity.’ We would be at the show. She had bodyguards. Everybody was running towards us and they were like, ‘Go back.’ I would say, ‘Go back,'” she recalled with a laugh.

Yung Miami’s connections to Miami music legends don’t end with Trina.

“Even Trick Daddy, he got a video called ‘Trick Luv Da Kids.’ We were in the video,” she said. “I love DJ Khaled. I’m so hood.” We are in a video. Trick and Trina, you know, they’re from Miami. My parents grew up with them. So I just kept running around in the celebrity world in Miami. Yes, this is nothing new to me.

The rapper’s admiration for Trina reached its peak recently when the two shared the stage at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.

“It’s amazing. It’s definitely like the moment I’ve been waiting for to perform on stage,” she said. “We did it at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, so it was actually perfect timing.”

The two performed Trina’s iconic hit “Pull Over,” which Yung Miami fondly recalled. Yung Miami described the performance as a dream come true.

“I thought, this is the moment I’ve been waiting for,” she said. “Imagine the moment that’s waiting for you and you’ll get it. Just to live that moment together and honor her.
