The young thug opened up his extensive prison sentence in his first interview since his release in 2024 while fighting the YSL RICO case, the trial itself, and his distance from Gunna.
After spending two years in prison as part of Georgia’s high-profile YSL RICO case, Young Thug finally spoke in a rare and original interview with GQ.
Among the many themes reflected by the Atlanta rapper, including his upcoming album Uy Scuti, Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s Rap Beef, More, one of the most touching themes he talks about is the surreal experience of incarceration.
For Thugger, prison is not only a prison sentence, but also a wake-up call.
“I think I’m too big for prison,” Young Thug said. “But I don’t think I’m too big to God.”
Comparing his time with God’s intervention, the young thug saw his imprisonment as something mentally orchestrated.
“God can put the biggest person there, I feel like I’m taller than jail, but he can squeeze in there like he’s there,” he said. “I think it’s like God, God’s thing, just showing me, like, you know, the situation, the real friends and who you are with, with you, how to move and how to be.”
The time to leave gave him a point of view and made him question why he had to be removed from the world to receive information.
“I always feel like a good person,” he said. “Then why should I go to jail and let you show me something?”
In another point in the interview, the thug shared his remarks about the YSL case, namely, prosecuting lyrics as evidence of the charge.
For the thug, it was both his imprisonment, both surreal and frustrating.
He felt a little crazy when asked about the feeling of using his lyrics as evidence. “It’s like’oh, everyone is listening to me, but crazy-like the first f ########################################################################################################################################################################################################################################## It’s wild. ”
He joked that he wasn’t sure which exact amendment it was, but it was clear that the artist should be able to express his principles without being in court.
In doing so, he also directly acknowledged his relationship with Gunna – a co-defendant in the YSL Rico case before Gunna accepted Alford’s request in the second half of 2022.
“I know everyone wants to know this,” Thug said when asked about the terms he and Gunna said. “I have no idea.”
Considering his deteriorating relationship with record label masterminds, Young Thug’s bombshell acknowledgement about Gunna is speculation about his position and future in YSL Records.
