YNW Melly’s attorney, Raven Liberty, has issued the following statement to XXL in response to the delay of Mellie’s double murder retrial until 2027.
“We are disappointed that today’s hearing is another Florida victory, which has allowed more time to get my clients inhumane treatment,” the statement said. “Melly was sentenced to 7.5 years in jail without a conviction, and the new trial date announced by the court means nine years in jail without a conviction.
“Every American should pay attention to this abuse of the judicial system and fundamental constitutional rights of Broward attorney Harold Pryor and his team of prosecutors,” the statement continued. “While we expect Broward attorney to continue procedural strategies to delay trials, my client can guarantee a quick trial once the jurisdiction is waived by the Court of Appeal to the Trial Court. This means that the trial can only be held after the Court of Appeal begins within 60 days, after their decision.

YNW Melly’s double murder retrial was reportedly postponed again.
YNW Melly’s second trial has been postponed
NBC 6 South Florida reported that the Fourth District Court of Appeal approved the suspension of the case at a hearing Friday (August 8), giving time to consider a motion from the state attorney’s office. Accommodation means the trial will not begin in September and has now been postponed until January 2027.

YNW Melly continues long-term legal struggle
Melly has been in custody since February 2019 when he was arrested for his childhood friends Chris “Ynw Juvy” Thomas and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams in 2018. The first trial in 2023 ended with a mistake. Since then, Meley and his code husband Cortlen “YNW Bortlen” Henry have been charged with additional charges.
The retry first started in March 2024, but was delayed several times as both sides filed many motions. In addition to the motion, it was reported that Melis’ attorney, Raven Liberty, has another issue, and is investigating witness tampering in connection with the case.
Melly has been pushing for bonds since the first trial, even suing the Broward County Sheriff’s Office last November, claiming that the prison system has been violating his constitutional rights. Last month, the trial appeared to be on schedule. However, the new problem once again delayed the case.
If found guilty, the Florida rapper could face death penalty.
