The judge in YNW Melly’s double murder reportedly ruled that a retrial of the rapper will begin on September 10, amid an investigation into Melly’s defense attorney.
Melly appeared in court on Wednesday (July 16) for another pre-trial hearing. NBC 6 South Florida 6 At the hearing, Judge Martin S. Fein ordered the handover of documents regarding his defense attorney, Raven Liberty.
Why are YNW Melly’s lawyers investigating?
Raven Liberty has been the subject of an 18-month investigation into possible witness tampering. However, information about the investigation has been closed because it is an ongoing inquiry. She has not been charged with any crime.

YNW Melly retried after being rejected for combination
Melly has been in jail since February 2019, fighting the double murder charges of his two friends, Chris “Ynw Juvy” Thomas and Anthony” Ynw Sakchaser, “Williams”. His first trial ended in 2023 with a misjudgment. Melly argued that he was locked down for six years and his condition violated his human rights, so Melly was denied in May.
Last July, the judge planned to conduct a retrial on September 10, 2025. Prosecutors hope to postpone the retry until 2026. But Judge Fein urged both sides to hold the trial faster.
