YNW Melly cut off her braids after nearly six years in prison.
YNW Melly haircut
YNW Melly appeared in court on Monday (January 6) for a hearing related to his double murder trial. Notably, the South Florida rapper’s braids were chopped off. In the video below, Mellie enters the courtroom wearing a red prison jumpsuit. The long dreads that previously flowed down his back have been cut off, and instead, he’s rocking a wild afro. It looks like he recently received a roster spot as well.

Next month will mark six years since YNW Melly was taken into custody and charged with murdering his friends Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams during a late-night recording session. His first trial ended in a hung jury last July. His second trial is scheduled to begin on September 10, 2025.
In November 2024, Melly sued the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Florida for abuse and demanded his immediate release. Melly claims his constitutional rights were violated in prison. Judge Melissa Damian responded to the lawsuit and ordered BSO to respond to Melly’s allegations and explain why he should not be released on bail until a second trial.
Today’s hearing was postponed until Tuesday (January 7) as the judge gave Meili more time to decide whether he wanted to continue working with his legal team to investigate alleged witness tampering by his lawyers.
