YG Research Institute ceases war with walking
On Sunday (August 18), YG, The Game and other residents of the area participated in the Truce and Peace Walk, which began at Gonzales Park in Compton. The Harmony Walk, initiated by YG and various gang leaders, continued throughout the neighborhood, bringing people from all walks of life together for a moment of unity. During this time, YG and a group stopped to eat at Tam’s Burgers, the same restaurant where Kendrick Lamar shot scenes for his “Not Like Us” music video.
The Treetop Pirus and Fruit Town Pirus gangs have been feuding for nearly a decade, dividing the community and ending in extreme violence. According to reports, YG is a member of the group Treetrop Piru. Video of YG’s event is below.

YG march for justice
This is not the first time YG has marched on the streets of Los Angeles for a just cause. The rapper recently held a Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles to honor George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and others killed by police. According to a June 2020 report from TMZ, YG teamed up with Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors to speak to 50,000 attendees about the importance of standing up for equality and justice. Clips from the protest can be seen in the multi-platinum artist’s music video for “FTP,” below. Rappers including Machine Gun Kelly also attended the event.
YG then released its new album “Just Re’d Up 3” on August 16th.
