Philadelphia police are investigating the shooting death of Philadelphia rapper YBC Dul.
YBC Dul, formerly known as Abdul Vicks, is affiliated with the West Philadelphia group Young Bag Chasers, often referred to as YBC.
The shooting happened in broad daylight around 3:34 pm on Friday in the city’s Olney section.
Authorities responded to reports of gunfire near the 5500 block of North Sixth Street, where YBC Dul was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said YBC Dul was shot multiple times in the chest and hand, causing serious injuries.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Investigators found a white Hyundai SUV at the scene and are currently investigating the shooting.
Sources familiar with the investigation have confirmed his identity, but no arrests have been made and police are still trying to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter.
YBC Dul went viral for allegedly digging the graves of his rivals. Multiple disputes with local rivals escalated into larger wars between the YBC and an alliance of five to six other gangs, resulting in multiple deaths.
The Philadelphia District Attorney has even become aware of the situation, and authorities are trying to prosecute those involved and curb the violence.
In 2021, a member of the YBC gang carried out a deadly ambush on a group of teenagers, killing two boys, including 16-year-old Carlin Johnson, and injuring another.
After the attack, gang members brutally taunted Johnson’s mother in rap songs bragging about the murder, exacerbating her grief.
The shooter was sentenced to up to 42 to 85 years in prison
