Even though Yak Gotti was acquitted of a high-profile murder charge in December 2024, he is hiring new attorneys to get him out of the Fulton County Jail.
The Atlanta rapper remains behind bars on charges of possessing contraband while incarcerated.
The 31-year-old artist was originally indicted in May 2022 along with rap heavyweight Young Thug and 25 others under Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
Prosecutors accused the group of participating in gang-related crimes, but after a lengthy trial fraught with disruptions that included judicial recusal and the arrest of a lawyer and juror, Yak Gotti was cleared of the most serious charges, including racketeering and a 2015 murder case.
Despite his victory in court, freedom remained elusive.
Yak Gotti had been serving more than two years in an Atlanta prison, and his incarceration took a drastic turn when he was stabbed on December 1, 2024 — a distressing incident that required medical attention.
According to Fox News 5, his legal team, Bruce Harvey and Nicole Westmoreland, took up his case in January 2025 and filed an emergency bail motion, stating Dangerous prison conditions can be grounds for release.
Jacques Gotti’s co-defendant Shannon Stillwell filed a class action lawsuit against Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labatt and Warden John Jackson alleging horrific, inhumane conditions inside the Fulton County Jail, That puts the dire situation at the Fulton County Jail under scrutiny.
However, the Atlanta rapper’s efforts to find connection have stalled. In December, a judge declined to rule on the motion, citing outstanding search warrants related to the contraband charges.
The case has been postponed until February 2025, further delaying the possibility of release.
