This is the 9th EP from Englewood, New Jersey emcee Sule. After releasing seven EPs in ten years, he signed with Benny the Butcher’s own Black Soprano Family Records in late 2022, and he’s also credited with a guest appearance on the biggest hit since Camby’s “White Lives Matter,” produced by Havoc famous. Fast forward to Election Day 2024, and we have a sequel.
“New Jersey State of Mind” is a banging opener that lets us know what it was like growing up in the titular state, while “Trois Sopranois” starring Benny the Butcher and Fuego Base finds the trio fully represented B$F for a few minutes. The STREETRUNNER-produced “Victor Cruz” delivers a soulful trap flare that references the Chicago Bulls WR, but then “Cutz” featuring Flames Dot Malik brings the two together for an aggressive hardcore Hip-hop group breaking a generational curse.
The other half begins, “My Brother’s Keeper” talks affectionately about being known for making promises rather than threats, while “Sule Common Wealth” starring Lo Profile works in more kicks and traps so they can Call yourself the same person who runs it. “I Made You Rich” featuring the Fuego base maintains a boom vibe and pays homage to those who betrayed them after making them rich, while “Crash Story” serves as a lesson for everyone End of leaving valuables in the storage room.
Over the past 8 months, Sule has quickly established himself as one of the finest artists on the Black Soprano family’s roster, and the follow-up has furthered that goal since Written on Wide’s Corner achieved its goal of making Englewood a landmark. Like its predecessor, the production this time around is a mix of “boom bap” and “trap,” with a few guests sticking around to perform, while the New Jersey artist himself continues to tell us where he comes from.
