As Young Thug’s arduous YSL RICO trial continues to drag on, YSL Woody, real name Kenneth Copeland, has emerged as a leader in the trial.
YSL Who is Woody?
Woody has been the prosecution’s star witness for months, appearing on the witness stand nearly every day since June 10 to answer dozens of questions from prosecutors. Young Thug faces multiple charges, including violating Georgia’s RICO Act. Prosecutors allege that Thug and six co-defendants used his record label, YSL, as a front for violent gang activity, and that YSL committed many violent crimes over the years under Thugga’s direction.
Prosecutors believe YSL Woody played an important role in proving Thugga’s guilt. Woody was previously sentenced to federal prison on October 22, 2018, for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He allegedly entered an Atlanta gym with an assault rifle and left the bleachers to play basketball in full view of 20 witnesses, including children. Inevitably, one of the witnesses called 911.
He was convicted of multiple crimes and after being released from prison was arrested again in 2021 for holding a gun during a traffic stop. Police interrogated Woody and leaked footage showed him telling police about an alleged murder plot involving the mob in order to avoid returning to prison.
However, since YSL Woody came to court, his testimony has been completely unexpected. He claimed to have special needs, claimed to have hearing problems, vision problems and admitted he lied to police about almost everything. He also fired his attorney in court and invoked his Fifth Amendment rights in the early days of testimony. Somehow, Woody’s legal team secured immunity in his case, meaning his court statements could not be used against the 11 convictions against him.
The public began to pay special attention to YSL Woody after the news of an ex parte meeting between Woody’s legal counsel and the then trial judge Ural Granville came to light. The defense claimed they had no knowledge of the meeting, and Glanville was forced to recuse himself after a dramatic few weeks in which Saga’s lawyer, Brian Steel, was nearly jailed for contempt of court. case.
Since then, YSL Woody has been back on the witness stand, trying to use his newfound clout to gain a bit of celebrity status in the process. He has given multiple interviews and even appeared on two of the 20 vs. 1 YouTube channels. The latter two videos have been viewed more than one million times, suggesting there may be interest in content featuring star witnesses in the YSL trials.
